Statement of intent

STATEMENT OF INTENT:

I intend to make my magazine front covers and contents pages aesthetically similar to keep my overall design fluent for publisher Conde Nast. I will make sure that I use young adult models of a variety of genders to ensure that the target audience of 16–25-year-olds are engaged. My 80’s fashion style magazine will somewhat contradict the traditional codes and conventions of the magazines that Conde Nast publish due to the fact that I will intend to replicate teen fashion magazines published in the 80s which focused on the use of bright colours and stylish fonts instead of traditional sans serif coverlines. Despite this, I still feel as if my magazine will be engaging to the briefs target audience as a result of them being middle and up market meaning they have enough disposable income to engage in historical fashion trends and treat the pieces of clothing promoted in my magazine as somewhat of a collector's item. They would pride themselves on having historical knowledge as well as cultural capital so would read my magazine in order to educate themselves on 80’s fashion and style. The first two issues of my magazine will feature a same visual style and layout however the change in mise-en-scene will signify that the issues are based on different sections of 80’s style providing in depth analysis for the target audience and this would be a continuing theme if my magazine was published further. I will also make sure that my magazine will look authentic and feature a range of models and include a date, barcode and price so that it could be sold in shops.

I intend to make my website follow a similar visual aesthetic to that of my magazine front covers and contents pages by utilising the same fonts and house style. The magazine company name will be clearly visible at the top of the web page so that I follow the codes and conventions of traditional magazine websites. Images of the first two issues of my magazine will be featured on the homepage in order to promote the physical copy of the magazine. I will have a working linked page on my website for the review section in which hot new items will be featured as well as profiles of reviewers to create authenticity and inform the audience of the best 80’s fashion to add to their collection. The website homepage and review  page will be visually engaging featuring a range of photographs of clothing as well as models in an attempt to market the pieces of fashion as collectors’ items. I will make sure that the prices featured in the shop page reflect the budget of the target audience as they are upper middle class and can splash out on non-essentials like stylised clothing.

On both my contents pages and website, the social media page of my magazine company will be included to prompt tech savvy 16–25-year-olds to follow the magazine company and create a connection between consumer and producer. The website link will also be featured on my contents pages so that audiences can easily find it and a sense of self promotion and synergy between the website and magazine physical copies is created fulfilling the cross-media promotion section of the brief. I will also ensure that I use the same font style for my masthead so that it is recognisable for the audience and creates a visual connection between the website and magazine.
